Verda was my oldest and dearest friend. In 1953, my family moved to Royersford. On my first day at my first day in a new school, as I was walking home another little 7 year old girl ran over to me. "Hi, my name's Verda Marie Schaefer, what's yours?" That little girl and I became joined at the hip for the 8 years I lived in Royersford and remained friends for 68 years. When she spent a year in Germany as a child, it was almost like my right arm was missing. She wrote me practically every day, sometimes in English and other times in German. One phrase she wrote in German was "Ich willst immer liebe du und nimmer vergessen dich", (I will always love you and never forget you) Now, I say that to her. She and I continued to share many good times as well as some bad times in our lives. The world was a better place with her in it.
