Obituary of Robert C Gibbons
Robert C Gibbons, 87, formerly of Camp Hill, PA, widower of Mary Jean (Weakland), died Wednesday, April 10, in Parkhouse At Providence Pointe.
He was born in Altoona to the late Russell and the late Sophia (Dougherty) Gibbons. He was a former long time member of St Theresa Church in New Cumberland, and was a veteran of the Korean war as a US Marine. He was married to Mary Jean (Weakland) Gibbons for 57 years preceding her death in 2010. He had a long career with Bell of PA and enjoyed his years of retirement from Verizon. He devoted his life to his faith, his family, and his love of basketball, spending many years announcing Trinity High School basketball games. He enjoyed his last four years at Woodbridge in Phoenixville, and was an active member of St. Basil the Great Church.
Robert is survived by Dennis and Judy Gibbons, Bellefonte, PA, Constance Gibbons, Raleigh, NC, Michael and Annette DeWald of New Oxford, PA, Krzysztof and Cecilia Kapusta, Phoenixville, PA, Russell and Elizabeth Gibbons, and Richard and Karen Gibbons, Richmond, VA; 11 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren; Sister, Bernadette Brown; brother, James Gibbons. In addition to his wife, is is preceeded in death by 9 siblings; 3 sisters, 6 brothers, and his parents.
Friends and family are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, 2300 Kimberton Road, Kimberton, PA 19442 on Monday, April 15, at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held on Sunday at R. Strunk Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Phoenixville, PA, 19460 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM; then again on Monday at St. Basil Church from 9:45 to 11:00 AM. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Altoona on Wednesday, April 17.
