Wilson Christman, 89, Royersford
Wilson J. Christman ("Chris", "Mr. C.") 89, passed away, Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the Phoenixville Hospital. He was the husband of Helen (Favinger) Christman with whom he shared 67 years of marriage.
Born in Mont Clare, PA, August 30, 1928, he was the son of the late Albert D. Christman and V. Pearl (Cage) Christman. They moved to Phoenixville where he attended Phoenixville High School. He served in the Army from 1950 to 1953 as a drill instructor. After the service, he attended Bowman Technical Institute and graduated in April of 1956 as a certified master watchmaker. He then worked for various jewelers before opening his own business, Christman Jewelers on July 23, 1962.
Wilson was very active in the community over the years with Community Chest, The Royersford Business Association, taking buses to the 1964 New York World's Fair, the annual Halloween Parades, and college bowl games. He coached little league for SFYAL and SF Babe Ruth baseball, and is on the Babe Ruth wall of fame. He was a past member of Spring Ford County Club and SF Rotary Club. He was a Son of American Legion, he helped start the Spring Ford Chamber of Commerce, and was member of Royersford United Methodist Church.
Wilson was a life member of The Liberty Fire Company, and their golf league. Wilson golfed at Meadowbrook Golf Course with "the old guys' on Tuesday mornings. He was a 50 year member of The Masonic Lodge, and was the recipient of The Spring Ford Rotary Citizen of the Year, 2017.
He is survived by his children, Jan (John) Jackowski, of Royersford, Joyce (Tom) Wallace of Hilton Head, SC, Will (Kim) Christman of Limerick, Wayne Christman (Cyndi Long) of Royersford, and Michelle (Keim) Christman; 6 grandchildren, John Jackowski, Scott Wallace, Tyler Wallace, Riley (Kaitlin) Wallace, Dwight Jackowski, Zachary Christman, Samantha Christman, Allie Christman, Leslie (Art) Hoopes, Tracey (Todd) Caltune; Epifanio Arjona and great grandchildren, Aiden Jackowski, Carson Jackowski, Amy (Epifanio) Arjona, Alyssa Hoopes, Amanda Schaffer, and Alaina Hoopes; and his brother, LeRoy Christman (Jen) of Pensacola FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral service at The Royersford United Methodist Church, 380 Church St., Royersford, PA 19468 on Wednesday, November 15, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held at The Shalkop Grace and Strunk Funeral Home, 135 Bridge St., Spring City, PA on Tuesday evening November 14 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
