Obituary of Elizabeth M. Banjack

Elizabeth Marton Banjack passed away at age 96. She was the daughter of Janos and Mary (Kovacs) Marton. Elizabeth was born and lived her entire life in Phoenixville. Upon her marriage to Joseph F. Banjack (decease) she lived on Buchanan Street for 55 years. Previous to her death she resided at St. Peter’s Place and the Parkhouse.
Elizabeth has one daughter E.M. (Bette) Banjack. She was the oldest of five children. She was preceded in death by her four siblings; Margaret Fedorsic, Julia Gaugler, Irene Drake and Andrew Marton, as well as her parents. Elizabeth was “Aunt Betty” to her nieces and nephews – as well as the many others.
She was active over many years in community events, her church (Parkside United Church of Christ), AARP, and the Senior Center. Elizabeth appeared numerous times as a guest on her daughter’s cooking show on television as well as being featured in her daughter’s cookbooks and newspaper columns.
During WWII and after – she and Joe welcomed many soldiers and their families from Valley Forge General Hospital into their home, some staying overnight and others longer. Many of these relationships lasted a life time. Elizabeth also like to crotchet, arts and crafts, bingo and baking. Best known for her Hungarian Rolls and Little Hungarian Cakes she baked during the holidays.
Visitation will be from 9 – 10:30 AM, Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Parkside United Church of Christ, Main Street and Third Avenue, Phoenixville, PA. Services by Rev. Russell Mitman will follow at 10:30 AM at the church on Monday. Burial will be private at Morris Cemetery.
