Raymond E. Umstead, 88 husband of the late Mary Jane (Powell) Umstead of Spring City died on Monday morning in the Manatawny Manor, East Coventry PA.
Raymond was born in Spring City a son to the late Leroy and Viola (Erb) Umstead. Raymond resided his whole life in Spring City. He was a graduate of the former Spring City High School., served two years in the Corp of Engineers, served in the United States Army during World War II Technician Company C, 325th Engineer Battalion in the 100th Infantry Division in Germany and France. Raymond attended Penn State and Ursinus College where he studied engineering and business administration.
He was employed for 22 years at the former B.F. Goodrich Tire Company and served on the Board of Directors for many years for their credit union. Also employed as Manager of Valley Forge Army Hospital Credit Union for 4 years, and retired from Lower Pottsgrove Township where he was Township Manager after 17 years. Raymond served 4 years on Spring City Borough Council. He was a member of the Spring City United Methodist Church, where he served many years on the financial committee. A life member of the Liberty Fire Company, Spring City and Friendship Hook and Ladder Fire Company, Royersford, where he enjoyed being on the bowling teams for many years He was a member of the Spring City Thomas W. O'Connor Post 602 American Legion.
After retirement he purchased a home in Florida where he enjoyed his winters playing golf.
He is survived by 4 children: Sandi wife of Paul Rosenberry, Sallie wife of Paul Isanski, Scott Umstead, and Tim Umstead husband of Dianne. 7grandchildren: Jennifer Ford, Marc Umstead,Ben Umstead, Amanda Wagner, Dan Umstead, Matt Umstead, Tiffany Isanski and 5 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Friday at 11:00am at the Spring City United Methodist Church, 45 N. Church Street, Spring City ,PA the Rev. Dennis Keen Officiating. Burial to follow in the Limerick Garden Of Memories. His viewing will be held Friday morning in the church from 10-11am. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made in his memory to the Spring City Public Library 245Broad Street Spring City PA or the Spring City United Methodist Church, Endowment Fund 45 N.
