Obituary of Joan S. Roskos
Joan Susan (Pomian) Roskos passed away on August 27, 2024 at the age of 82 surrounded by family. Joan was born in St. Clair, Pennsylvania to Frank and Mary Pomian (Markovich). She was a member of the first 4 year graduating class at Nativity BVM Catholic High School and received her Bachelor degree from St. Joseph School of Nursing. Joan worked as a Registered Nurse most of her life most recently as a private duty nurse. She was also the neighborhood and family nurse to all who may have needed her. Mom loved being a nurse and taking care of people and always kept in touch with her nursing buddies.
She met and married Jim Roskos in 1963 and lived in Phoenixville the rest of her life. She was a member of the women’s guild of St. Ann’s church where her children attended.
She loved her coal cracker heritage and always had a story, often in great detail, about growing up “up state”. Mom enjoyed going down the shore and spending time with her friends at their Campground. She had more flowers growing down there than at home. When any of us would visit and Mom and Dad weren’t there she always reminded us to give her flowers a drink.
She cherished her friendships and always looked forward to their annual trips to an assortment of tropical islands with their group of friends. To all who knew her she was the most kind, loving and caring person on the face of the earth and never had a bad word to say about anyone, in our minds she was a true Saint.
Along with the many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews, she is survived by her brother Robert Pomian and wife Dorothy. Her children, son James M. Roskos and wife Linda (Walsh), son Michael F. Roskos and wife Salena (Cooney), daughter Michele E. Holloway and husband George, son Daniel J. Roskos and partner JoAnn Debiasio. Her Grandchildren, Jamie and husband Dan (Magro), Jimmy, Cecilia and husband Shawn (Henry), Michael, Danny, Christopher, Sam Holloway and wife Anna, great grandkids Mackenzie and Quinn Holloway and two on the way. Joan was the epitome of a grandmother, never missing a milestone or activity involving her grandchildren and would always remind us to let her know when they had grandparent day at their schools. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James J. Roskos whom she loved and adored. Her father and mother, Francis and Mary (Markovich) Pomian, Father in-law and Mother in-law George and Mary Roskos, sister in-law and brother in-law Elizabeth (Betty) and John (Jack) Moran.
