Robert MacLelland, Jr., 96 passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, July 2, 2024.
Bob, born May 15, 1928, the son of Scottish immigrants, (Robert and Helen MacLelland) was raised with a strong work ethic, love for education, and a sense of adventure. Bob was raised along with his sister, Helen in Philadelphia. An avid and talented athlete, he played baseball at Northeast high school, and continued to play volleyball, softball, and golf throughout most of his life.
Bob was a gifted woodworker and proud veteran, serving in the U.S. Army as a carpenter, building bridges in Germany during the Korean War to aid the troops. In 1953, he married his beloved Virginia (Miller) “Jinny”. He enjoyed 44 years working for The Reading Railroad/Conrail. He also attended classes at LaSalle University.
Bob & Jinny raised 4 children, Bruce (Buffy), Cheryl, Stuart (Anne), and Leslie (John). Bob became known as “Dada” to his 11 grandchildren, Ashley (Drew), Bruce Jr. (Caitlin), Melanie (Paul), Abigail, Kyle, Hannah (Adam), Kean, Cerys, Duncan, Maisie, and Callie, and 10 great grandchildren, Sage, Quinn, Olive, Emily, Milo, Alex, Mason, Maxwell, Addison, and Jacob. They also cherished their niece, Helen (Jeff) and nephew, Doug (Linda) and countless dear friends including Marylou and Phyllis.
During their 60 years together Bob and Jinny traveled the world, attended sporting events, and supported important causes like the American Cancer Society and Team USA.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, sister-in-law, Sally, brothers-in-law, Wallace and George, nephew John, and niece, Marjorie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests making a donation to American Cancer Society or Team USA in his honor and memory.
