David C. Highley, 61, a beloved family man and friend, peacefully passed away at home on Tuesday afternoon, February 6, 2024. Born on December 28, 1962, in Norristown to Betty Jane and David Claire Highley Sr., David was one of four children. He lived in Montgomery County, where he attended Methacton High School and later raised his family.
In 1987, Dave established his own business, Highley Custom Masonry, Inc., demonstrating his dedication and remarkable craftsmanship, while leaving an indestructible mark on the industry itself. Beyond his professional achievements, Dave was an avid outdoorsman. From hunting in the backyard to exploring other areas of the vast wilderness across the United States, he possessed a deep connection to the land. His passion for hunting, trapping, and fishing was unmatched, and he enjoyed every opportunity to showcase his abilities. Venturing onto the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, he exemplified mastery and confidence, leaving his friends in awe with his skill.
Dave was more than just an outdoorsman though; he was a pillar of strength and support to all who knew him. His generous spirit knew no bounds, always extending a helping hand to those in need and inspiring others to always reach their fullest potential. With a larger-than-life personality, Dave attracted attention wherever he went. Behind his rugged exterior, lay a heart of gold. Those closest to him knew him not only as the toughest man around but also as the most compassionate and loving soul. His family, friends, and beloved pets were the beneficiaries of his boundless love and affection. Dave leaves behind a legacy of strength, determination, and passion. His memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched, and his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Tina (Tanyer) Highley; his mother and father, Betty Jane and David C. Highley Sr.; his three children of former wife, Sue Ellen Ellwanger: David S. Highley, Amanda Martin, and Stephanie Brooks (husband, Justin); six “grandbabies”: David C. Jr., Abigail, and Elizabeth Highley, Natalie and Charlotte Martin, and Riley Brooks; and two sisters: Terry Walsh and Sherry Borbely. Dave was preceded in death by his infant brother Randy Highley.
