What a wonderful woman and friend Marlene was and will always be! I am so very sorry to hear of her passing. I had the wonderful pleasure of knowing her and her family when I was her son’s teacher in Preschool years ago. I still remember her bringing Matthew in and him running up to me and him only wanting to sit by me in our morning circle time! Matthew was only 2 at the time. Not only that, but I had an accident and fractured my ankle and had to take a leave of absence from Teaching which made things very hard for me being single at the time. Marlene saw I wasn’t at school when she dropped off Matthew and she got my phone number and called me and asked if she could come over. When she did, she so lovingly presented me with a love basket of different foods, and even some extras and even put an envelope at the bottom with some money to help out with my bills. I tell you, I will never forget the true love and kindness she showed me. It didn’t stop there…. She would pick me up and take me to lunch even after my cast was taken off and when her and her husband would go out, she had me come over and babysit Matthew. Such fun and wonderful memories and I could go on and on how wonderful of a friend she was.
I lost touch with her as I guess they moved away and then finally years later after much searching, I was able to locate her and contact her via Facebook. She had definitely remembered me and we got all caught up as much as we could! She had also told me how she’d been sick and that she “isn’t afraid” and she knows she has full peace inside her.
I never ever knew anyone like her! She would give anyone in need the shirt off her back if she thought they could use it. I light a candle in your memory my dear friend! My sincere condolences to the family and God bless all those wonderful people in Cuba that Marlene had the opportunity to help and all the homeless animals that Marlene also helped! You will forever be remembered and loved my friend!
