Obituary of Emilia M. Coburn
Emilia M. Coburn, 94, Spring City
Emilia Coburn, 94, widow of the late Andrew J. Coburn, passed away Wednesday January 15, 2020 in her home. A woman of resilience and strength, Emilia was born one of ten children on April 13, 1925 in Poland. At a young age, she was taken to Germany to work on a farm as an unpaid worker. During WWII, she met and fell in love with Mr. Andrew Coburn, a serviceman from Oil City, PA. They married and he brought her to America to start a life together. They traveled all over the country as a military family. Their final stop, Valley Forge Military Hospital.
Hard work was not something that intimidated Emilia. While raising her three children, Emilia would walk to the Pennhurst School to cook all day. Her love for people was exemplified in food. She loved you by feeding you. Although her life was difficult, a farm slave, isolation for five months while suffering from T. B. of the bladder, and fighting cancer for many years, she always chose joy.
Emilia resided in the East Vincent area in the very home she walked past while working at Pennhurst. She was devoted to her Catholic faith. You can find her photo in the St. Joseph’s RC church 100 year celebration. She enjoyed gardening, counted cross stitch and her beloved General Hospital.
Emilia leaves behind Venie Tancredi (Robert) of Arizona, Edward Coburn (April) of Oxford, and Ruth Coburn (Sandra Mattingly) of Spring City.
Five grandchildren: Rainer, Alden and Lief Coburn, Andrew Vandine and Valerie Stover. Four great grandchildren: Gary, Cecily, Kabel, and Norrin
